The professor Riccardo Rossi, a member of the League for the abolition of divorce, ardent defender of morality and social ethics, finds – coming home – his wife Elisa in the company of a woman who he mistakes for a man. Desperate, Rossi poisons his wife and throws her body in the lake of Castel Gandolfo; then he brings home the prostitute Eve and weaves an ambiguous relationship with his niece Barbara. Thanks to his niece, he discovers that
Elisa is still alive and in league with Eve to kill him. This time he does not fail the shot and kills two women with a gun. But Barbara, in turn, has masterminded the whole thing to be alone and heir; she poisons Riccardo and throws his body along with the corpses of Elisa and Eve; in the end Barbara is killed in a road accident.
Story and script by Renato Polselli and it would have been best for all concerned if he had also directed it. The movie is something of a remake of La verità secondo Satana. Francesco Degli Espinosa may have a grand name but his directorial skills are somewhat lacking. Could be the fault is with the script but despite the presence of the lovely Erika Blanc, this just seems to get sillier and sillier. In the end with its whole series of twists and turns we begin to see why there was that silliness and why this one, but really. Not helped by the ghostly visions that appear as if a third person has entered the bedroom but there again if you knew at the start the preposterous ending all would appear much clearer but of course then there would have been no story and no film. Anyone care? Actually the multiple ‘endings’ do salvage this and there was a smile on my face as the credits rolled, so I guess thats salvaged it then.
